Scratches and chips
A chip or scratch may affect only the upper coating or extend into deeper layers. Its depth and location determine the repair options.
Scuffs and transferred material
Transferred paint or other material can sit on top of the finish, but the underlying surface may also be damaged. Both need evaluation.
Overspray or contamination
The substance involved and any products already used for cleaning affect the assessment. Removing contamination and repairing damaged paint are different tasks.
Localized or wider work
One damaged spot does not always define the full painted area. Nearby finish condition and any required blending can affect the scope.
Repair questions
Can every scratch be polished out?
No. Polishing cannot replace missing paint. The depth of the mark and condition of the remaining finish determine whether polishing, touch-up or refinishing is appropriate.
